Why 8-minute abs don’t work ☝️

We’ve all seen the famous infomercial about “8-minute abs”. A lean fitness model is performing the exercises and their six pack is clearly visible.

All you have to do is perform these 8 exercises for a minute each and magically your abs will appear. Your desire to have washboard abs is as simple as doing different crunches for only 8-minutes a day.

I’m guilty. I did these types of “ab” workouts thinking it would get me that six pack I always wanted.

This couldn’t be further from the truth.

While exercising for any amount of time is a positive thing, only exercising for 8-minutes at a time while only doing abs just won’t cut it.

Think about how many muscles are involved in doing a crunch. Now, think about how many muscles are involved in doing a Squat or a Kettlebell Swing.

The more muscles you use at once, the more calories you burn.

This is why doing “big bang” exercises like – deadlifts, squats, pushups, kettlebell swings, pull-ups – are so much more effective for not only weight loss but gains in strength as well.

You should incorporate some core training into your workouts because a strong core will help with lifting heavier weights and every day life, but it should not be your sole focus.

Another thing to consider is what you eat, which can be an entirely different post.

If you’re guilty like I was of doing these 8-minute ab workouts, let me know what you thought of them and those crazy infomercials.
